exhibition view FUTUR II, Kunstraum Bernsteiner, Vienna 2013
In addition to drawings made from self-produced coal, the exhibition also includes sculptures made from ancient anthracite coal: a typewriter, a cylinder head, a sewing machine, a microscope and books. They emerge from coarsely hewn blocks of coal, and are reminiscent of fossils. The objects are still familiar to us, yet they belong to a bygone age. FUTUR II thus has a melancholic feeling, and reads like a break, because the future we know and experience will soon become something that will have been.
