POLITICIAN I (mosquito), 2007
polyproylene, 55 x 70 x 50 cm
The series of sculptures POLITICIAN consists of agglomerates of small spheres forming the bodies of insects, such as a flea, a tick or a mosquito. The parasitic animals, which often infect their hosts with viruses, become a metaphor for “social epidemics” (ideologies, dogmas, nationalisms). The parasite, as carrier of the virus, undermines the immune system and the parasitic becomes the political. The works raise the question of the relationship between immunitas and communitas.
